Wastewater in the Wild West

NWEA is seeking content to be presented at its Annual Conference in Reno. If you are a wastewater professional, come share your knowledge and experience amongst your peers at our 2023 annual conference. Presentation proposals welcome from any and all wastewater professionals: operators, maintenance, analysts, inspectors, engineers, academics, etc. While all abstracts within the subject matter of wastewater, water reuse, collection systems and pretreatment, will be considered, NWEA is specifically looking for presentations related to the subject areas listed below.  Presentation should be approximately 45 minutes long including adequate time for questions and discussion.

  1. Wastewater:
    1. Water reuse and long-term resource planning
    2. Facility planning
    3. Challenges of small and rural wastewater systems
    4. Treatment plant operational and design upgrades
    5. Biological process improvements
    6. Biosolids management
    7. Rate setting and social equity
    8. Energy conservation technologies or operating strategies to lower costs and reduce carbon footprint
    9. Water quality analysis and quality control – methods, techniques, and advancements.
    10. Process control systems including integration of instruments for enhanced process control, machine learning, modeling, SCADA, digital twin, and data analytics
    11. The current state of the industry as it relates to individual wastewater unit operations (e.g. disinfection, thickening, secondary treatment, etc.)
  2. Pretreatment and Collection Systems:
    1. Source control programs and local limits
    2. Environmental surveillance
    3. Sewer monitoring and sensing developments
    4. Sewer, lift station, force main design, technology, and innovation
    5. Condition assessment, CMOM, planning
    6. Septic to sewer conversion
  3. Alternative Project Delivery Methods
  4. Regulatory/ Permitting
  5. Asset Management
