Kurt R. Segler Water Reclamation Facility
The Kurt R. Segler Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) is the main wastewater treatment plant for the City of Henderson. It has a capacity of 32 mgd, meeting stringent nutrient removal and reclaimed water regulations before discharging to reclaimed users or the Las Vegas Wash and Lake Mead. It uses step screens followed by aerated grit removal as preliminary treatment. No primary treatment, but activated sludge that includes nitrogen and phosphorus removal. Tertiary treatment by deep bed or continuous backwash filters, and ultraviolet disinfection round out the processes used to make some of the best effluent in the Las Vegas valley!
01:30 pm – 04:00 pm
Southwest Water Reclamation Facility
The Southwest Water Reclamation Facility (SWRF) came online in January 2012. It is an 8 mgd “scalping” plant that treats wastewater to Nevada Class B reclaimed standards for nearby irrigation needs. The plant includes coarse and 2 mm fine screens, bioreactors for nutrient removal, hollow tube membranes, single stage blowers, and biotowers for air treatment. A two-year study proved effluent disinfection standards were met at the membrane permeate discharge, so the ultraviolet disinfection system remains on standby for emergency use only.
