Class Description:

This 3 hour presentation provides an overview of the design and use of ductile iron pipe for water and wastewater applications. Ductile 101 is an interactive presentation that address the typical questions encountered from the user's perspective. From recycled materials to product uses and design concerns - all facets of successfully burying and using ductile-iron pipe are explored. This session is prepared to assist design engineers, utility managers and operations staff. Ductile 101 will show you what you think you know in an entirely different light. This presentation will also discuss the "do's and don'ts" of pipeline project preparation and installation.

We will also discuss the new Envision rating system for sustainable infrastructure, which was created by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure and the ASCE, as it pertains to ductile iron pipe. The Envision rating system is designed to do more than simply rate and rank projects in the built environment. It is designed as a template for planning, designing and constructing projects that contribute to sustainability and the reduction of our environmental footprint without diminishing quality of life. At the same time, it helps engineers and utilities to take into account the changes in operating conditions in ways that ensure the project will perform as specified over the entire design life with lower maintenance and operating costs. The EnvisionTM sustainable infrastructure rating system is an objective framework of criteria and performance achievements. It is designed to help users identify ways in which sustainable approaches can be used to plan, design, construct and operate infrastructural projects.

Attendees will garner insightful information involving the manufacture, design, and installation arenas of underground utilities. This course will also create new interest in ductile iron pipes that have a very wide application potential.
